Alan Yeh Chosen as One of 50 Recipients of the 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement
Alan Yeh (’98), who teaches AP Calculus at HBA, is Hawaii’s recipient of the 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement
Each year, the Siemens Foundation gives this prestigious
award to one teacher from each state who embodies “the best of American
education by inspiring students in the classroom and taking the extra effort to
encourage talented students while instilling a love for learning that continues
to influence them for a lifetime.”A key
component of the Foundation’s mission is to encourage educational excellence in
the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.The Foundation rewards one teacher per state
each year for “exemplary teaching and enthusiastic dedication to AP both inside
and outside the classroom.”Recipients
must have taught an AP course for at least five years.This is Yeh’s seventh year teaching AP Calculus.
The Siemens Foundation announced its state and national
winners in the February 23 edition of USA Today.
