Alan Yeh Chosen as One of 50 Recipients of the 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement

Alan Yeh (’98), who teaches AP Calculus at HBA, is Hawaii’s recipient of the 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement

Each year, the Siemens Foundation gives this prestigious award to one teacher from each state who embodies “the best of American education by inspiring students in the classroom and taking the extra effort to encourage talented students while instilling a love for learning that continues to influence them for a lifetime.”  A key component of the Foundation’s mission is to encourage educational excellence in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  The Foundation rewards one teacher per state each year for “exemplary teaching and enthusiastic dedication to AP both inside and outside the classroom.”  Recipients must have taught an AP course for at least five years.  This is Yeh’s seventh year teaching AP Calculus.

The Siemens Foundation announced its state and national winners in the February 23 edition of USA Today.

Congratulations, Mr. Yeh—you make us proud!
