International Justice Mission (IJM) representatives accepted a check for $8,669 from Lynne Nakano, National Honor Society (NHS) advisor and Hannah G., senior and NHS committee chair at a recent school assembly.
During HBA’s Spirit Week held earlier this year, students collectively raised enough money to free 17 people from slavery through IJM. What started out as a friendly competition between classes to raise $500 with donations of coins and loose change, resulted in an amazing collaborative effort as one body to give what they could to help others.
“We all saw a chance to change the world and be God’s light in a world that sometimes seems to be overpowered by darkness,” said Hannah G. “I saw God in many ways that week. My possible was raising $500, but God likes to make the impossible, possible.”
International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression.
