HMSA Teen Video Awards

Students in The Art & History of Film, HBA's Fine Arts film class, won 1st place for their Public Service Announcement titled "Smoking... It's a Mouthful" in HMSA's Teen Video Awards contest


Using vivid imagery of a teenager smoking some of the many lethal ingredients found in cigarettes, students in The Art & History of Film, HBA's Fine Arts film class, won 1st place for their Public Service Announcement (PSA) titled "Smoking... It's a Mouthful" in HMSA's Teen Video Awards contest.  "Regret," another PSA produced by HBA film students, placed in the top 20 in the Anti-underage Drinking category.  Held at Ward Theaters on Thursday, May 17, the red carpet event's sponsors included HMSA, the Hawaii Department of Education, Sassy/G Magazine, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).  In attendance were the Lieutenant Governor, Duke Aiona, local celebrities, professional and student filmmakers and members of the media.  The first place prize in the anti-smoking category received a koa clapboard trophy and $1000 to go to the purchase of video production equipment.  The winning PSA will be aired across the state on the various local television stations.  On Monday, May 21st KHNL News 8 will be interviewing students Kim Mow (grade 12) and Jordan Nakamura (grade 11) for the morning show.  The following students produced the 27 second PSA:
