About HBA

The luncheon to recognize all varsity athletes – which is partially subsidized by the HBA Athletic Booster Club and the HBA Athletic Department – was attended by over 420 students, coaches, administrators, family members and friends.  

HBA students participated in 19 different HBA and Pac-5 varsity sports this past school year, including lesser-known ones like kayaking, canoe paddling, air riflery and judo.  

Six HBA varsity teams won ILH championships…  
boys volleyball
girls volleyball
boys bowling
girls bowling
girls tennis
boys basketball (HBA’s first since 1996).  

Both volleyball teams also won HHSAA state championships for the second consecutive year.  And the Pac-5 girls varsity soccer team – which included six HBA students on the roster – also won ILH and state titles.

Individually, senior Risha Mishima won ILH championships in wrestling and judo and a third consecutive state title in judo…senior Kaety Enos won an ILH title in wrestling…senior Matthew Nakamoto won ILH titles in cross country and track & field (3000m run)…and sophomore Samantha Smithson also won an ILH title in track & field (100m hurdles).
