Ordinarily, the POY hails from one of the larger schools that compete in division I. However, a statewide panel of coaches and media awarded Palmer the honor as she helped guide the HBA girls varsity volleyball team to its second straight division II state championship. She also led the Eagles to an upset of Iolani and to a narrow 23-25, 26-28 loss to eventual division I state champion Kamehameha-Kapalama.
Finishing just behind Palmer in the voting were senior setter Caitlin Andrade of Kamehameha-Kapalama and senior hitter/setter Anuhea Keanini of Punahou.
Also being named to the Star-Bulletin’s “Fab 15” list was HBA senior libero
Kelly Chang at number 11.
