The Pac-5 boys varsity baseball team made the most of an April 10th appearance on statewide television by defeating the Maryknoll Spartans 6-1. The game – played at the Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park – was televised live by OC16.
Leading the way for the Wolfpack (4-7) was HBA junior pitcher Landry Kiyabu, who scattered five hits while striking out seven and walking just one. He needed only 67 total pitches in posting the 7-inning complete game victory over the Spartans (1-10). Kiyabu, who also plays varsity basketball for HBA, was named the OC16 Impact Player of the Game for his performance on the mound.
Other HBA players who started the game for Pac-5 were junior catcher Bryson Kihara, senior third baseman Aaron Nagamine, and senior second baseman Royce Yamaki. Kihara drove in the first Wolfpack run with a single to left in the third inning.
Contributing as reserves were seniors Christian Morimoto (pinch runner) and John Kagehiro (HPB, stolen base), and juniors Chris Sekiguchi (SAC bunt) and Royce Fujii (pinch hit single, run scored).
There are 8 HBA students on the Pac-5 varsity team, 12 on the junior varsity team and 11 on the intermediate team.
