About HBA

HBA senior Sarah Palmer was one of twelve high school athletes from throughout the state who were inducted into the Honolulu Advertiser Hall of Honor June 6, 2010.  The banquet and ceremony were held at the Sheraton Waikiki and attended by about 600 people. 

The Hall of Honor program was established in 1983 by Nissan Hawaii to recognize excellence in athletics and to perpetuate the accomplishments of Hawaii’s high school seniors.  Each honoree received an Enterprise Rent-a-Car $2,000 college scholarship along with their induction into the Hall.

The keynote speaker was new University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach Gib Arnold and award presenters were Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hanneman and Honolulu Advertiser Sports Editor Curtis Murayama.  The mistress of ceremonies was Raeceen Woolford, Miss Hawaii 2009.

Sarah – daughter of Doug and Lori Palmer – made her mark in volleyball, helping lead HBA to three consecutive ILH and State Championships.  She graduated June 5 with a 3.5 GPA and is headed to the University of Texas on a full volleyball scholarship.  Also a Daughter of HBA – having attended from kindergarten through twelfth grade – she now joins Matt Stevens (1997) and Lauren Ho (2006) as the third student-athlete from HBA to be inducted in the Hall of Honor.  Congratulations Sarah!

• Upset of Division 1 Kamehameha (2009…Kamehameha would go on to win State Division 1 Title)

• Three-time Division 2 State Tournament Most Outstanding Player (2007, 2008, 2009)
• Three-time ILH Division 2 First-Team All-Star (2007, 2008, 2009)
• ILH Division 2 Player of the Year (2009)
• Honolulu Advertiser State First-Team All-Star (2008)
• Honolulu Advertiser State Player of the Year (2009)
• Two-time Honolulu Star-Bulletin State Player of the Year (2008, 2009)
• Two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year (2008, 2009)
