
She is the daughter of Eric (HBA, '81) and Teri Kashiwamura.
In Round 6,
Kashiwamura was the only speller to successfully spell a word among the
five remaining spellers. She spelled ingot, a mass of metal cast into a
convenient shape for storage or transportation and to be later remelted
for casting.
In Round 7, the championship round, Kashiwamura
correctly spelled actuary, one trained in mathematics and statistics
whose business it is to calculate insurance and annuity premiums,
reserves or dividends, to clinch the title.
