The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. Each class of seven meets four times a week--once for an extended period, and three times for shorter periods. A morning break and lunch are part of the daily schedule. On occasion, the schedule is adjusted to allow for special events, assemblies, and semester exams. Chapel is held every Thursday for students, faculty and staff.
Athletic practices and games are scheduled after school as are some of the performing arts. About 75 percent of HBA's secondary students are involved in at least one ILH sport and of those students, 40 percent participate in multiple sports.
Students are also encouraged to participate in on-campus academic teams, clubs and service organizations. These include Student Council, Servant Group (a Christian service organization), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Oahu Math League, Mock Trial, Robotics, Interact (community service), National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll, Hiking Club, Investment Club, Chess Club and Chinese Club.
Breakfast, hot lunch, and snacks may be purchased on campus. Lunch prices for high
school students range from $3.50 for a large "bowl," to $4.10 for a
"Type A" or regular lunch, to $6.00 for a plate lunch. Microwaves are available on campus for students who bring home lunches. Seniors are allowed to leave campus for lunch and an independent study period (with parental permission).
Limited parking off campus is available for a fee for student cars (Student Handbook rules apply).
HBA students have a modified dress standard. Mills, Inc. is the
authorized uniform supplier. Guidelines regarding appropriate dress and personal appearance are outlined in the school's Student Handbook.
