From the MS Principal, Mrs. Atta: Announcements:- Christian Emphasis Week (CEW): Our annual CEW is coming up on March 16th – 20th. There will not be any FLEX Classes that week. We will end each day that week at 2:40 p.m. except for Friday, March 20th when classes will end at 1:35 p.m. (note change in Friday’s dismissal time). If you have any questions please call the Front Office at 595-6302. See calendar listing above.
Eagles, Job Well Done! - Lunch Evaluation Focus Group: Mr. Daryl, the overall manager for our cafeteria operations from Sodexho, and myself discussed with a wonderful and creative bunch of students who not only contributed their ideas but lunch recess to provide ways that the lunch service at the MS can be improved. The suggestions ranged from cost and time saving measures to having “poke and California Roll sushi” added to the menu. Please thank the following students for their citizenship: Noah; Kallie; Nyckolle; Jonathan; Keelen; Tory; Mary; Vivian; Cheyenne; Rio; David; Bryn; and Mark.
- This Month’s Challenge: Be Thoughtful
Turn in to the front office a page to describe your experience. Write about ways you practiced the ABC YESS System. Describe the situation. What attitude did you chose and why? Describe your behavior. Did you behave differently than you normally do? Describe the results of your choices. How did it impact your character and/or others around you? Includes any other thoughts to help describe your experience to us.
Remember the ABCs of the YESS System: ABC BeAttitude You choose your…Attitude. You choose your…Behavior. You reap the results in Celebration or Consequence. Your Choices build your Character. At HBA Middle School, we take care of ourselves, each other and this place.
To demonstrate care and respect of ourselves, our things and our place, all valuables, books, and other materials must be in the student’s possession at all times. Books and materials should be kept locked in your locker. To accomplish this end, the following will be implemented effective today:
- Unattended Books, Backpacks, Lunches and Other Materials:
1. Any bags left in the hallways, on benches or tables after the start of school (7:35 p.m) will be moved to the Storage Room. These items will not be available till after-school pickup times. 2. After-school Pick-Up: All items collected will be available for pickup by students at the following times form the Storage Room: a. 2:05 – 2:15 p.m. b. 2:55 – 3:10 p.m. 3. After 3:00 p.m.: Books, backpacks, lunches and other materials left anywhere unattended on campus will be collected and deposited in the Lost and Found located in the Front Office.
- Lost & Found:
Retrieval for lost items from the Front Office is $0.25 per item AND a Lost and Found Letter to the Parents will be filled out by the student for the parents to sign and return the next day. Letters not returned the next day or repeated offenses may earn as a result demerits or detention hours. Items left longer than 2 weeks will be discarded or donated.
- Approved Name Embroidery for HBA Jackets ONLY:
Many jackets are lost without names on the tags or the tags are torn off. Students names can be embroidered on HBA jackets only if they follow HBA's Dress Code Requirement. The requirements are supported by one vendor thus far. Vendor: JR's Embroidery at Ala Moana- Sears Font: 1/2 inch; “Burmuda” and black thread Cost: $5.00 + an additional $1 for every letter + tax A discount is given for a group of 12 - $5.00 charge is waived. Also, every fifth letter is free."Style: Placement on the jacket of the name is 1/2 inch below the gold "HBA" logo on the jacket. It is centered below the HBA logo: "First Initial and Last Name" i.e. C Atta
Though the student’s name would be difficult to see in black thread, the purpose is to have a subtle but relatively permanent label so the jacket is recoverable if lost.
- Locker Responsibility:
According to page 122 in our handbook, “Lockers must be kept locked at all times. A student will be cited each time his or her locker is reported unlocked, and demerits will be issued as well as other consequences. If a student accumulates three locker citations in one quarter, he or she will not be allowed to use a locker for the remainder of the semester.”
Please secure your locker. Some of you have your combination/key lock in a locked position but the locker door still can be opened. To avoid possible lost of personal items and textbooks, we will be completing periodic unannounced locker checks this quarter. If it can be opened you will receive a demerit. Please be sure to secure your lockers and double check that the lock is latched tightly. From 7th Grade Science Teacher, Mr. Hom:Chapter 19, Circulatory System From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:1. All Winter Sport Athletes: Once your season is completed, please launder, bag and label your school issued uniforms and return to the athletic office. 2. All Spring Sport Athletes: Please remember to check either the dry erase board outside the athletic office OR the bulletin board in the middle school snack bar EACH MONDAY for transportation and early release schedules for that particular week. If you notice any errors or omissions, you need to notify me right away. This is standard procedure and the policy is enumerated in the athletic handbook. You should also frequently check these boards for any changes during the week due to inclement weather or other extenuating circumstances. Contact me or come see me in the athletic office if you have any questions. Thanks, Mr. Oshiro From H.S. Art & History of Film Teacher, Mr. Malinger:Computer Animations created by students in Hawaii Baptist Academy's The Art and History of Film are airing during the month of March on Olelo D.O.E. channel 56. Airdates are Tuesdays @ 5 - 6 p.m., Thursdays @ 7 - 8 p.m., Saturdays @ 9 - 10 a.m. From H.S. Student Council Advisor, Mr. Traughber:Aloha to all students! As the school year starts to come to a close, the time for Student Council elections gets closer. This year, we have an action-packed Student Council election over three weeks. Here is a general over-view of those weeks: From April 13-18, we will be having Student Council Petition Week. From April 20-24, Campaign Week will commence. On April 28th, we will have a Student Council Assembly to give all candidates a chance to present to the school their ideas to make everyday school life better. And then, on April 29th, we will have elections! Be thinking about running for office! Look in future bulletins for more information and announcements!
