From the MS Principal, Mrs. Atta:

Welcome Back!

Announcements:

You’re invited to the Spring Fling by the Student Council:
Friday, April 30th
from 6:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
They have arranged a special event. All students are all invited to attend the Magic of Polynesia dinner show. You will be entertained by the International Magician Society’s Merlin award-winning master illusionist John Hirokawa (father of Bryson, Class of 2014). He will perform amazing feats before your eyes. The cost will be $33.00 for each student for the dinner package. The dinner expense is subsidized by the Student Council fundraising and the school will pay for the transportation cost.

The website promises: Guaranteed To Mesmerize. There’s no other show like it in the world. The Magic of Polynesia is the ultimate stage show combining magic, illusions, Polynesian dance, song and chant. Creative use of pyrotechnics and other special effects make this show even more explosive. This “must-see” spectacle is the #1 show in Waikiki, and you can see it live nightly at the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel’s $7.5 million showroom.
For more information, go to: http://www.magicofpolynesia.com/

8th Grade Parents:  Please reserve Sunday, May 2nd from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
The 8th grade team has planned a special annual event, “Kuikawa”  or Rite of Passage. It will be at the MS Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). Parents have a minute to speak and affirm their child as each looks forward to transitioning to the high school.
Also, please see the PTF, Fun Fair Announcement below. We are in need of parent volunteers, please consider participating. Work side-by-side with your child.

Eagles, Job Well Done!

HIM Conference:
Our students able to take the opportunity of attending the HIM conference did a good job of attending and listening. Their behavior and attitude drew compliments which represented HBA well. Some of the students also took the initiative to write “Thank you” notes to be given to the anonymous donor. We are very appreciative to have been given the opportunity to attend this conference.

HBA Robotics Team:
Wow! Tournament Champions in the VEX Robotics Competition rescheduled to the Spring Break because of the tsunami. Please congratulate the middle and high school team members:

Our middleschoolers were - Bryson Agena, Michael Kamei, Daniel Kimoto, Junlang Chen, Jonathan Hayashi.

The High schoolers were - Vanessa Burton, Kalsi Kwan, Ryan Lowe
provided not only VEX expertise but a caring and mature leadership to this mixed middle and high school team. Other dedicated team members could not be there because of Spring Break travel: Colby Anama, Bryce Matsuda, Holden Saunders and Kylee Arima but Micah Nakamura came on board as a substitute for this tournament and did a wonderful job.

The team’s diligence and efforts spent in hours of designing, practicing, checking and rechecking paid off. The opportunity to participate in tournaments is from the vision and drive of their tireless Ms. Jennifer McFatridge. She has given countless unpaid hours to support this team’s effort. This is the second tournament award for this Robotics team this year. The first was the “Think Award.”

Thank you! Facilities completed the following big projects on our campus:

1.    Automatic door closers. They helped to keep the classrooms energy efficient as well as helping each class period be ready quickly for instruction.
Warning: Students please be aware that the door closers are automatic, be careful of your fingers and hands.

2.    MPC. Volleyball poles on the court following Mrs. Aguiar’s specific instructions have been installed. This will help the teams setup faster and the nets will be secure and safe.

3.    MPR Drainage Trench. Facilities designed and built a trench at the foot of the MPR outdoor stairs. This trench will help to keep the grassy area from being soggy after a huge downpour. Please allow the grass to grow and stay out of the marked off-limits area. Thank you.

Thank you! Students you have been taking care of yourself. Mrs. Matsushima reports that the Lost and Found items have diminished in number. Excellent care of belongings!
