From the MS Principal, Mrs. Atta:

End of Year Reminders:

  • Attached are next year’s First Week of School and other important SY 2010-2011 along with the HBA 2010-2011 Calendar. (Hard copy in the Monday Folder).
  • See the Standardized Test Secrets by Middle Years Publications (hard copy in Monday Folder handout) for hints on how to ensure your middle grader does his or her best. Download a copy of Standardized Test Secrets here.
  • All FLEX program classes do not have final exams except for Japanese but many have final project due dates. To get a passing grade all projects and assignments must be satisfactorily completed.
  • On June 1st and 2nd school will be dismissed after exams at 10:50 a.m. Middle School will be taking a Comprehensive Testing Program Exam on these two days. No student should be on campus after 11:20 a.m. unless permission is granted.
  • Snackbar will be open during breaks.
  • All student lockers need to be cleaned by Tuesday, June 2nd, after the last exam. Don’t forget to take your locks home.
From MS Counselor, Ms. Okazaki:

Seventh and Eighth graders:  On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 1st and 2nd, you will be taking eight multiple-choice tests—verbal reasoning, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing mechanics, writing concepts and skills, quantitative reasoning, and mathematics (part 1 and part 2).  You cannot study for these tests so please do not worry about THEM.  JUST get a good night’s sleep especially on Monday and Tuesday!

Eighth graders ONLY:  On Thursday, May 27, you will be taking the algebra 1 section of the CTP 4.  You will not need a calculator.

Bring (2) no. 2 lead pencils or mechanical pencils with HB leads; a good eraser; a calculator with the four basic functions (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing); a free-reading book; and a watch to pace yourself (optional).  You will be able to use the calculator only on part 2 of the mathematics section, which you will take on WEDNESDAY; you can still solve the problems without a calculator.  Please do not buy a calculator just for the test!

From Bowling Coach, Mr. Hayashi:
8th Graders – if you are interested in turning out for the boys or girls Bowling Team next year, please sign up with Mrs. Matsushima in the MS Office.

From Librarians, Mrs. Hayahi and Mrs. Huster:
[All grades] All library books are due May 19, 2010. To avoid demerits or detention for overdue books, please be sure to return your books on time. Be sure to pay any fines that are due at the time you return your books. Thank you.

From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:
1.  All Spring Sport Athletes:  Please launder and return your school issued uniforms as soon as possible to the athletic office.
2.  All Students:  The summer sports program information is posted on the school website:  www.hba.net  The contact information for all the head coaches is included, as well as the detailed basketball and volleyball schedule.  Please contact the athletic office if you have questions. 3.  All 7th-11th Grade Girls:  If you're interested in HBA cheerleading, there is a mandatory informational meeting Tuesday, May 18th at 3:30 PM outside the high school weight room.
Coach Dayna will be present to discuss training and tryout schedules.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro
