From
the MS Principal, Mrs. Atta: Important Items and Reminders:
➢ End-of-the-Year Student Behavior: There is sometimes a tendency for students to do things during the last days of the school year that they may not normally do. Serious infractions of school rules may result in the immediate suspension of the student for the remainder of the school year. The student will be given zeroes on any Final Exams for school days lost as a result and grades will be lowered accordingly.
Remember the ABCs of the YESS System:
BeAttitude ABCsYou choose your…
Attitude.
You choose your…
Behavior.
You reap the results in
Celebration or
Consequence.
Your Choices build your Character.
➢ FLEX Classes: End on 5/28, Friday. Be sure that if you change into sports outfits you are actually going to a practice or game. The exception is on FT Friday, you may wear FT clothing. No bathing suits or short shorts – should be at uniform length also wear shoes for safety.
➢ H20: Please remember to drink sufficient water each day. Staying hydrated and with sufficient sleep will help you to stay healthy and ready for the Final Exams and Standardized Tests coming up this week. The recommended water intake is to drink ½ of your body weight in fluid ounces. The water fountains are available and bring bottled water on your FT this Friday.
➢ Sanitize Hands: Use the dispensers all over school or vigorously wash your hands in running water for as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday two times.
➢ Lost & Found: Pick up any lost items all will be gone by May 28th.
From Counselor, Ms. Okazaki:Seventh and Eighth graders: On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 1st and 2nd, you will be taking eight multiple-choice tests—verbal reasoning, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing mechanics, writing concepts and skills, quantitative reasoning, and mathematics (part 1 and part 2). You cannot study for these tests so please do not worry about THEM. JUST get a good night’s sleep especially on Monday and Tuesday!
Eighth graders ONLY: On Thursday, May 27, you will be taking the algebra 1 section of the CTP 4. You will not need a calculator.
Bring (2) no. 2 lead pencils or mechanical pencils with HB leads; a good eraser; a calculator with the four basic functions (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing); a free-reading book; and a watch to pace yourself (optional). You will be able to use the calculator only on part 2 of the mathematics section, which you will take on WEDNESDAY; you can still solve the problems without a calculator. Please do not buy a calculator just for the test!
From Geography Teacher, Mrs. Yorita:Seventh graders need to return geography and science textbooks to their teacher by Tuesday.
From HS Librarian, Mrs. Huster:MS students: Please be sure to return all library books, Lit Circle books and resolve any library fines by Friday, May 28. If you do not resolve all library issues by this Friday you may lose the privilege to attend the reward activity and/or receive demerits.
From HS Art Teacher, Mr. Kaneshiro:ALL STUDENTS: Please help the High School Art Department in recycling and collecting the following items during the summer:
Prescription bottles (Please peel the labels for your privacy.)
Photo film canisters (If you still shoot film, please ask for them at the place that develops film.)
Baby jars (The glass jars not the plastic ones.)
Yogurt containers (The ones that are wide mouth with covers not the upside down ones)
Glass & plastic jars (wide mouth jars only)
Newspapers (please, no half sheet ads or inserts)
Old magazines with photos in them
These items are invaluable supplies that help our students in their different art projects.
Thank you so much for your help.
From Supplemental Programs Director, Mrs. Yahata:Summer School begins on June 14. Confirmation letters and general information will be mailed during the week of May 25 - be sure to check them carefully for courses, teachers, and classroom assignments. Student parking will be available at the Middle School campus at rates of $30 for three weeks and $40 for four weeks.
Parking permit forms may be picked up at Middle School office and must be turned in with payment before Summer School begins. Call Mrs. Shirley Yahata at 545.4485 for any questions regarding Summer School.
From Christian Ministries, Mrs. Gruspe:(7-8th Grade):
Servant Group Applications are due this Friday, May 28th. Servant Group camp forms will only be sent to the current 8th graders who have turned in their applications. There is limited space for servant group camp, so please make sure you get your servant group application in by Friday. Current servant group members and those who want to join servant group for the first time need to fill out an application. These can be picked up from the Middle School office.
From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:1. All Spring Sport Athletes: Please launder and return your school issued uniforms as soon as possible to the athletic office.
2. All Students: The summer sports program information is posted on the school website:
www.hba.net. The contact information for all the head coaches is included, as well as the detailed basketball and volleyball schedule. Please contact me in the athletic office if you have any questions.
3. All 7th-11th Grade Boys: If you're interested in playing volleyball, there will be an informational meeting today, Monday, May 24th. For the 7th & 8th graders, your meeting will be at 11:30 AM on the lanai fronting the multi-purpose room. Encourage everyone to come out as we are planning on fielding two intermediate teams next year. For the 9th-11th graders, your meeting will be in the gym at 12:35 PM. Coach Teoni will be here for both meetings. Thanks, Mr. Oshiro.
