From MS Principal, Mrs. Atta:

Eagles YESS! Job Well Done!
You have made the school opening a joy and a delight. I look forward to getting to know all of you better in the coming days. Please make our middle school one that everyone will want to come to everyday.

BeAttitude
As Christians, God gives us the freedom to create our lives through choices and the ABCs of the BeAttitudes seek to provide a way to remember this and it is as follows:

BeAttitude ABCs
You choose your…Attitude.
You choose your…Behavior.
You reap the results in Celebration or Consequence.
Your Choices build your Character.

We began the “BeAttitudes ABCs” program with a quarterly focus: Be Kind. Your Advisory/Homeroom Teachers will nominate one student from each homeroom and students will be announced at the end of the quarter.

1st Quarter Goal: Be Kind - What does it look like?
  • Choosing your words thoughtfully and carefully.
  • Always be respectful.
  • Putting yourself in other people’s shoes.
  • Not gossiping or spreading rumors.

Some of questions to ask yourself:
➢    What does “kindness” look like on the highway?
➢    What does “kindness” feel like when you’re sick?
➢    What do “kindness” and “empathy” have in common?
➢    When someone is kind to me, I feel:   ______
➢    When I am kind, I feel: ______
➢    When someone says something unkind to me, I feel:  _______
(Dotson & Wilson)

Remember in all actions and deeds the Golden Rule:
“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,
for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
  Matthew 7:12

At HBA Middle School, we take care of ourselves, each other and this place.

To demonstrate care and respect of ourselves, our things and our place, all valuables, books, and other materials must be in the student’s possession at all times.  Books and materials should be kept locked in your locker.

➢    Unattended Books, Backpacks, Lunches and Other Materials:
Books, backpacks, lunches and other materials left anywhere unattended on campus will be collected and deposited in the Lost and Found located in the Front Office.
After-school take all of your belongings when you leave for athletic games or practices.  Your coaches will make arrangements to store your items.

➢    Lost & Found:
Retrieval for lost items from the Front Office is $0.25 per item AND a Lost and Found Letter to the Parents will be filled out by the student for the parents to sign and return the next day.  Letters not returned the next day or repeated offenses will earn as a result demerits. Items left longer than 1 week will be discarded or donated.

REMINDERS:

UMBRELLAS/RAINCOATS:
•    If you regularly eat at the high school campus for lunch, please be prepared with an umbrella or raincoat in easy access in your locker or backpack.

UNIFORMS:  Be in uniform upon campus arrival through departure including FLEX.
KEEP HYDRATED AND RESTED: Be ready to learn!

  • Be sure to get at least 8 - 9 hours of rest each night. Your behavior and patience will improve.
  • DRINK lots of fluid throughout the day to stay hydrated. (1 oz. of water for every pound you weigh–3 gulps at our water fountains equals to about an ounce of water).
  • Use the soap lotions and wash your hands thoroughly

FOR PARENTS:
Monthly Calendars from the Middle School Counselor, Ms. Okazaki:
Students will receive two monthly calendars.  They should keep one of the calendars in their binders for necessary edits.  The other calendar should remain at home.  Major assignments such as projects, portfolios, oral presentations, tests, and some quizzes are listed on the calendar.   Daily homework assignments or other minor items will not be included

From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:

1.  All Students:  If you intend to tryout for a fall sport, please sign up in the athletic office or middle school principal's office.  Fall sports are:  football, girls volleyball, bowling, boys water polo, junior varsity tennis and kayaking (air riflery is underway).  Please note the tryout information flyers posted around campus and in your classrooms.  This information is also posted on the athletics page of the school website.  Keep in mind that Student Health Record and Athletic Handbook Agreement forms need to be submitted prior to trying out.  These should be turned in to the athletic office or athletic training room.  However, you may turn them in to the middle school principal's office or front office and they will be forwarded to us.  You or your parents may contact me in the athletic office if you have any questions.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

2.  All Students:  If you are trying out for a fall sport that practices off campus, please check - daily - the following locations for athletics transportation information:  Middle School - Bulletin board in snack bar, High School - Dry erase board outside athletic office.  HBA provides one-way bus transportation for most sports on most "regular-schedule" school days.  You and your parents will need to arrange your own transportation home.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

3.  All Students age 16 and Older:  If you're interested in working as an ILH volleyball scorer or timer in the gym, please stop by the athletic office and ask for Coach Keith.  We are looking for responsible, reliable, and conscientious workers for the upcoming ILH girls volleyball season.  The pay is $10 per match.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

4.  All Students:  Please welcome Mr. Sam Lee to the athletic department staff!  Mr. Lee is an athletic trainer who will join with Miss Shannon Keen to help provide more medical coverage for all of you who participate in sports.  Take some time to stop by the athletic training room to say "hello" to both of them.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

5.  All 9th-12th Graders:  If you're interested in playing junior varsity tennis, please sign up in the athletic office so we can check for your athletic handbook and student health record forms.  Tryouts begin Thursday, August 12 at the Ala Pu'umalu Park Tennis Courts.  Meet outside the athletic office by 3:10 PM...the HBA bus will take you to the site, but you will need to arrange your own transportation home.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

6.  All 9th-12th Grader Girls:  If you're interested in playing jv or varsity girls basketball this year and not involved in a fall sport, strength and conditioning workouts will begin Tuesday, August 10.  Please meet in the weight room at 3:10 PM.  A schedule will be distributed at the first workout.  If you are unable to attend on Tuesday, please see Coach Keith in the athletic office.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

7.  All Students:  If you participated in summer basketball, please return your jerseys to the athletic office as soon as possible.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro
