Lunch will not be available from the cafeteria, so remember to bring a home lunch or submit your Subway order form and payment by February 10th.Don’t forget to turn in by February 10, your permission form for the HTY play and your Subway order form, if you are purchasing a sandwich. 

Parent Orientation: EIGHTH GRADERS, Class of 2016
Please don’t forget to make time to come to one of the registration sessions for your 9th grade year. The sessions are onThursday, February 2, either at 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. or 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. is the Eighth Grade Parent Night for you and your parents in the Middle School Multi-purpose Room.  Information on HBA’s graduation requirements and registration procedures will be given.  Please bring with you your parent and a pen.  Thank you! If you are not able to attend, please meet with Ms. Okazaki promptly at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 3, for information.  Thank you!

Congratulations to Alexa Yoo and Paige Oshiro for winning first and second place respectively at this year's school spelling bee!  Both Alexa and Paige will be competing at the regional level on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Le Jardin Academy.  Way to go, girls!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in one or all of the following middle school Math Competitions. The invitational competitions were from Iolani, Pearl City Highlands, Mililani and HBA. HBA’s Math Challenge was sponsored by the high school’s National Honor Society and 14 schools competed.

7th Grade Participants:Kellie Akiyama, Makenzie Cammack, Jade Che, Shalev Eckert, Eliesse Hihara, April Joy Laxamana, Madison Misuno, Kristina Tommee, Davis Tsuha and Dylan Tsuruda.

At the last quarterly Knowledge Quiz Bowl the following students answered the questions correctly and won the grand prizes. Congratulations to Sarah Harada, Alexa Yoo and Kylee Aoki


From HBA President, Mr. Bento:
The Honolulu Boy Choir is currently holding open auditions.  Boys ages 8 to 12 who are interested can call 596-7464 to schedule an audition appointment.  You can also visit their website:  www.honoluluboychoir.org or obtain information from the MS office.


From ChristianMinistries, Mrs.Gruspe:

Designs for the CEW T-shirt contest are due tomorrow by 3:00pm.  Please turn them in to Mr. Lockridge or Mrs. Gruspe.


From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:
1.  All Students:  If you're interested in going out for a spring sport, information regarding try outs and coaches' contacts is posted on the athletics page of the HBA website.  There are hard copies available at the athletic office.  Please also sign up if you intend to try out.  7th-8th graders should sign up with Mrs. Matsushima at the Middle School...and 9th-12th graders should sign up at the athletic office near the gym.  If you have any questions, please come see me in the athletic office or e-mail me at doshiro@hba.net 

2.  All Winter Sport Athletes:  Once your season is finished, please launder and return your school or Pac-5 issued uniform.  T-shirts and swim suits are consumable and yours to keep.  Everything else needs to be returned.  Please return your uniform in a zip lock bag - or other bag - and be sure that it's labeled with your name. 

3.  All 7th-9th Graders:  If you're interested in intermediate golf, try outs begin today, Monday, January 30 at the Bay View Golf Course and Driving Range from about 3:45-6:15 PM.  Please meet at the grassy area at the middle school by 3:15 PM on both days if you need a ride to Bay View.  You will need to coordinate your own ride home.  Try outs will continue Tuesday, same place and time.  Although tomorrow is a half-day, you will be allowed to eat lunch and study on the high school campus if you need to catch the bus.  Come to the athletic office if you have questions...or have your parents e-mail me at doshiro@hba.net 

4.  All Boys:  If you're interested in baseball, try outs begin today, Monday, January 30 at various sites and times.  Please refer to the spring sport information sent home via e-mail.  Also, refer to the bus schedule posted in your teacher's room, the middle school office or the athletic office if you have questions regarding transportation.  If you're currently involved in a winter sport, you are required to finish it prior to beginning your spring sport.  Come see me in the athletic office or e-mail me at doshiro@hba.net if you have any questions.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro


From Bowling Coach, Mr. Hayashi:
Bowling Club: Transportation provided to Shafter for club bowling tomorrow, Tue. Jan. 31. Half day schedule: bus leaves HBA  at 1:00 pm. Meet at steps outside Mr. Oshiro's office. Bowling equipment may be left in this area during the day. If this is your first time to the bowling club, be sure that you give the permission form to Mrs. Hayashi in the library for high school students and to Mrs. Matsushima in the MS office for middle school students.
