Four students have been commended for the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). They are Gabrielle Chun ’20, Reese Haly ’20, Matthew Yamamoto ’20, and Cydni Yoshida ’20. The four are among 34,000 high school seniors from across the country who are being recognized for their exceptional academic scholarship. They will receive a Letter of Commendation from HBA and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Although the four students will not continue in the 2020 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students are among the top 50,000 participants of the PSAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Earlier this month, Zach Lau ’20 was selected as a semifinalist for the NMSP. As a semifinalist, Lau will compete with 16,000 students for 7,500 scholarships worth more than $32 million. The winners will be chosen based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments. They will be announced in February.
