Remembering Joyce Wong
Ryan Su

Our hearts are heavy as we learned of the passing of Mrs. Joyce Wong on Saturday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m.  She went to be with the Lord after she was unable to recover from a massive stroke she experienced a few days prior at her home in Tennessee.

Mrs. Wong served at HBA for 37 years and has made a lasting impact on our school community and all who knew her.  During her tenure at HBA, she was a teacher, student council advisor, and bowling coach.  In the late 1980s, Mrs. Wong was asked to teach in the Bible Department.  In each and every role, Mrs. Wong taught her students how to love and minister like Jesus.  Since retirement she continued to stay involved with HBA as a member of the Mainland Advisory Council.

Her goal each semester was to “let every student feel loved, affirmed and know that he/she is someone whom God wants to mold into something far more than they could ever become on their own.”  She would often say, “life is a one-time only event.  We have to get it right the first time.”

In 2014, HBA awarded Mrs. Wong with the Lifetime Legacy Award.  Thank you Mrs. Wong for your lifetime of service, commitment, dedication, and love.   We thank God for the legacy and imprint you have left on our school- and on each of us.

A private burial will be taking place this week in Tennessee and a celebration of life is being planned in the near future.  Further details will be shared when arrangements are confirmed.  In the meantime, we have created a space for anyone who wishes to post memories, thoughts, and prayers.
