Five students are being recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) for their academic achievements. Seniors Lydia Lan, Dayna Okazaki, Jasmine Oki, Len Silva and Gavin Yamamoto are among the top 50,000 scorers in the nation in the 2019 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. To celebrate, they will receive a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and from Hawaii Baptist Academy. They will not continue on to compete for scholarships in the NMSP.

On September 9, the NMSP announced that seniors Adia Ainsworth, Johanna Seng and Christine Yamamoto are semifinalists in this year’s competition. They are among the 16,000 students who scored the highest in their state. Finalists will be announced in February, and they will have the opportunity to compete for more than 2,500 scholarships from the NMSP, as well as awards from corporate and collegiate sponsors.
