Technology

At HBA we believe technology skill development is most effective in the context of a course that uses technology as a tool relevant to its discipline. The programs that compose our two-fold approach to technology use and instruction are Technology Integration and Tech Intensive Courses.

Technology Integration

Our teachers embed relevant technologies in the core curriculum to teach and apply basic technological skills. Some of the examples of Technology Integration are:

  • One-to-one iPad initiative for students in grades 7-12
  • Class sets of iPad labs in grades K-6
  • Mobile & desktop computer labs on all campuses
  • Google Docs accounts for students in grades 5-12
  • Microsoft Office instruction embedded in the curriculum

Technology Intensive Courses

Beginning with the class of 2015, students must take at least one “Tech Intensive” designated course in their high school career from grades 10-12. These are courses in which students consistently learn and employ advanced technological skills and tools to solve real world problems. Some of our Tech Intensive courses are:

  • Animation
  • Applied Engineering
  • The Art & History of Film
  • Introduction to Programming
  • AP Computer Programming
  • Digital Photography
  • Documentary Filmmaking
  • Introduction to Photoshop
  • Introduction to Newspaper and Yearbook
  • Yearbook Production
  • News Production
  • Introduction to Statistics
