Band Director

Dwaine Woo is the new Band Director at Hawaii Baptist Academy. He teaches the High School Band Ensembles.

Dwaine earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Hawaii. He also attended the University of Hawaii and the University of Kansas for his graduate studies. Dwaine has experience as a music teacher for the Department of Education, Hawaiian Mission Academy, and Pacific Rim Bible University. He has also taught through private music lessons since 2005.

Assistant Band Director

Maribelle Fernandez is the new Assistant Band Director at Hawaii Baptist Academy. She primarily teaches Middle School Beginning Band and Advanced Band. She also assists with the High School Band Ensembles.

Maribelle earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. Prior to teaching at HBA, she taught 5th-8th Grade Band at Holy Family Catholic Academy.

Courses

Students have the opportunity to participate in band beginning in 7th grade though 12th grade. The year-long elective course teaches students how to play an instrument and read music. A variety of courses are offered depending on each student's skill level. Band concerts are held at the end of each semester.
