Rhona Halmos

Rhona Halmos has taught at HBA for over 22 years. Originally a graduate of McKinley High School, she continued her education at Hawaii Pacific College on an 80% athletic scholarship. Two years later, she accepted a 100% athletic scholarship to California Baptist University in Riverside, California. She received her degrees in Liberal Arts and Physical Education, and also earned her teaching certificate. While at California Baptist, Rhona made the most important decision in her life – and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior!

In June of 1999 Jesus brought Rhona home to Honolulu to take care of family matters. She is the ninth out of ten children and has six brothers, three sisters, 16 nephews, 14 nieces, and 80 grand nephews and nieces. Her mom is 90 years old and enjoying her Senior Citizen life in the Pearl City Nursing Home. Her dad and two step dads went home to be with the Lord.

Before God opened the doors for her as a Kindergarten teacher at HBA, she was a teacher at Wahiawa Preschool, a substitute teacher and volleyball coach at Punahou School, a Group Leader at Central YMCA’s A+ program (K-4th), and a part-time teacher at Kalihi Kai Elementary School.

Her hopes and prayers for all of her students are for them to be excited about learning new skills and enhancing their lives intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually at HBA.
