Applicants should verify that the following documents are submitted to complete their application by the April 30 deadline:

• Personal Essay, 500 words or less, for students applying to grades 6 to 12 next school year (refer to questions on personal essay tab)
• Two reference form submissions
• Current year 1st Semester report card
• Prior year report card (all quarters)

If you are a student rising to Grade 6 through 12 next school year, please provide a personal essay (no more than 500 words) touching on all questions.

Important Dates:

• April 30, 2023 by 11:59 pm: Deadline to submit Completed Application Packet (including two reference forms) for New applicants to HBA

Award Notification Dates: 

• By May 31, 2023, or as additional openings become available

Note: Only students who are selected for an award will be contacted

• To ensure your attachment uploads properly, please save documents as .pdf, .doc or .docx. Pictures or images (i.e. .jpeg or .png) or .pages will not be supported.

• If you have trouble submitting, please use a different device and/or clear out your cache. If you use a Mac or iPad (with Safari as a browser), you may encounter difficulties submitting, especially during high traffic volume. 

Submit two reference forms using the link below from a qualified, non-related reference that is 21 years or older. Persons of Reference may include the student’s current or former pastor, current or former principal, former academic or extracurricular teacher, current or former employer, counselor or coach. Please also note only two reference forms will be accepted per application. If more than two reference forms are submitted, only the first two forms received will be accepted and considered. References will complete and submit the on-line form directly to HBA. Please ensure that your references (including teachers) have known you in a professional capacity for at least six months and that you give at least two weeks for your reference to fill out the form. 

Note: References will receive an email confirmation after submission. Please ask your reference to forward this email as a receipt their reference was submitted. If you do not receive a confirmation of submission email from both of your Persons of Reference, it is your responsibility as the Applicant to follow up with them prior to the April 30, 2023, 11:59 pm deadline.
