The HBA boys varsity volleyball team took its game to the Beach City Invitational, which was held March 16-17 in the San Diego area. The tournament was held at four different sites – La Jolla High School (tourney host), Scripps Ranch High School, Canyon Crest Academy, and Point Loma High School.

32 teams began pool play March 16 with the top 16 finishers advancing to championship bracket play March 17. Most of the teams in the field were from California, specifically from the Southern Section or San Diego Section. HBA was the only Hawaii team, but there were three teams from Nevada, two from Arizona, and one from Northern California.

After struggling in pool play against smaller, less accomplished teams, HBA found their footing and played well for basically the entirety of Day 2. The caliber of the competition was actually much better in the Silver Division than it was in pool play.

Leading the way as starters for HBA were senior setter Davin Rausch, senior hitter Eric Wong, junior hitters Jason Mokan and Trevor Tokairin, junior middles Max Wiemken and Bryson Gonzalez, and senior libero Dru Pang.

The team was coached by Teoni Obrey and Serafin David, Jr.
