Suchart Archpru

An immigrant from Thailand, Suchart Archpru worked for 34 years at Hawaii Baptist Academy. He started by doing maintenance work and janitorial services. He then took over as the school’s caretaker, and eventually worked up to facilities director until he retired.

Known for his strong work ethic and humble heart, he worked around the clock to ensure the campuses were clean, safe, and ready for learning. He cared for his crew, and would often host them at his home for dinners or cook outs.

He also had a deep appreciation for the school’s lush surroundings, and led nature clubs and conservation efforts around the stream and forest. He enjoyed planting and harvesting fruits that were grown throughout the Nuuanu property and shared them with others.

“My greatest memory working at HBA is that God’s love is real and demonstrated through the people I worked with every day. I know that He is in control of all at HBA.”

After retirement, he continued to oversee the maintenance of all three campuses. Nowadays, he spends his retirement years in Colorado with his wife Helen, daughter Melissa ‘98 and her family. His son, Bryan ‘01, lives in San Jose. He is a proud grandfather to six grandchildren.

It is an honor and great privilege to receive the Distinguished Service to HBA Award. I want to thank my facilities team, who worked with me for many years to provide service for the students, teachers and staff. I am very grateful for the honor to serve under Col. Stan Sagert, President Dan Kong, and President Richard Bento, as well as Elementary Principal Dr. Ruby Ovitt. I want to thank my wife, Helen, my daughter Melissa, and my son Bryan for all of their love and support. Most of all, I want to thank my God for His unconditional love and strength, and for allowing me to serve Him at HBA.
