What is a legacy gift?
A legacy gift is a charitable gift that is arranged during your lifetime and completed now or in the future as part of your financial or estate plans. Legacy gifts allow you to support Hawai‘i Baptist Academy’s mission while thoughtfully stewarding the blessings God has entrusted to you.
-
Do I need to be wealthy to make a legacy gift?
No. Legacy gifts are not only for individuals with significant wealth. Many faithful HBA supporters create a lasting legacy through thoughtful gifts that reflect their values, faith, and love for future generations of students.
-
What are some examples of legacy gifts?
Common legacy gifts include:
- Gifts through a will or living trust
- Beneficiary designations from retirement accounts, life insurance policies, or financial accounts
- Life income gifts, such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts
- Gifts of real estate
-
Do I need to change my will or living trust to make a legacy gift?
Not always. While a gift through your will or living trust is a common option, other legacy gifts—such as beneficiary designations—can often be completed by updating a beneficiary form with your financial institution or plan administrator.
We encourage you to consult your attorney, financial advisor, or other qualified advisor when making changes to your estate plans.
-
Can I still provide for my family if I make a legacy gift?
Yes. Many legacy gifts are designed to complement your existing financial and estate plans while continuing to provide for your loved ones. Every family’s circumstances are different, so we encourage you to discuss your goals with your trusted advisors.
-
Can I change my planned gift in the future?
Many legacy gifts are flexible and may be changed if your circumstances or intentions change. Please consult your attorney, financial advisor, or plan administrator regarding your specific gift arrangement.
-
Do I need to notify HBA if I have included the school in my estate plans?
We would be honored to know if you have included Hawai‘i Baptist Academy in your estate plans. Notifying HBA allows us to thank you, recognize your generosity, and steward your legacy with care.
-
Can I designate my planned gift to a specific area of HBA?
Yes. Depending on the type of gift, you may be able to designate your gift to support a specific fund, scholarship, program, or area of ministry. We encourage you to contact the Office of Institutional Advancement to discuss your wishes.
-
What if I have already included HBA in my will or estate plans?
We would love to hear from you! Sharing your plans with us allows HBA to express our gratitude and welcome you into our legacy community. It also helps us better understand and honor your intentions.
-
How do I get started?
The first step is simply a conversation. Contact the Office of Institutional Advancement to learn more about legacy giving options or to share your intentions. We would be honored to walk alongside you as you prayerfully consider your legacy.
-
Does HBA provide legal, tax, or financial advice?
No. HBA provides information about available giving opportunities but does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice. We encourage you to consult your attorney, financial advisor, tax professional, or other qualified advisor regarding your personal circumstances.
