The HBA second grade class took their annual field trip to Barnes and Noble on Friday to buy books for homeless kids along the Leeward Coast.
The field trip concludes a month long unit on earning an income and charity. Students are encouraged to make good choices when spending their money by practicing good stewardship, giving back to others, and treating people the way that Christ would.
The books purchased by the second grade will be donated to Partners In Development's Ka Pa'alana Homeless Family Education Program. According to Ka Pa'alana's website, their preschool program meets the state's "Learning to Grow" Infant and Toddler Development standards. Terry Nakamura, the husband of second grade teacher Dayna Nakamura, is a literacy trainer at Ka Pa'alana.
