The ILH winter sports season for many intermediate and junior varsity teams has already concluded. Three HBA teams and one PAC-5 team were able to finish on top to win their respective ILH Division 2 Intermediate Championships.
The HBA boys intermediate tennis team clinched their ILH title with a 3-2 playoff victory over Maryknoll on December 14. The team had to defeat Le Jardin the day before (4-1) to earn the chance to play for the championship. Team members are eighth graders Jonathan Chung, Justin Do, Ty Felipe, Kai Moriyama, Kyler Nakashima, Noah Watanabe, and Cody Yeung; and freshman Matthew Li. The team was coached by Dan Corbin and Wayne Inouye.
The HBA girls intermediate tennis team matched the feat of their boys counterparts on December 14 by defeating Sacred Hearts/St. Andrew's 3-2. Both title-clinching matches were played at the Keehi Lagoon Tennis Courts. Team members are seventh graders Brilynn Au Yuen, Kira Baker, Samantha Cerda, Dilan Chock-Makiya, Arielle Cook, Cadi Komenaka, Abigail Ng, and Abigail Powell; and eighth graders Emma Chun, Madison Duren, Joni Ruan, Amanda Sato, Kaylee-Ann Tani, and Hope Yonehara. On December 15 the PAC-5 girls intermediate soccer team laid claim to their respective championship as well. The Wolfpack defeated Le Jardin 2-0 at Kapiolani Park to finish their season as champions. Representing HBA on the team are seventh grader Kaiya Tom, eight graders Celina Tong, Kate Higa, and Rachel Harris, and freshman Celine Pelenske. Most recently, our HBA boys intermediate basketball team won their championship with a hard fought 40-32 victory over Damien. The December 23 title game was a playoff forced by the Monarchs when they defeated the Eagles 55-46 on December 21. HBA trailed by as many as 18 points in that game, but was able to rebound two days later and win the rubber game between the two schools. Both games were played at HBA's Dan Liu Gymnasium. Team members are seventh graders Jackson Lincoln, Trent Mitchell, Connor Takemoto, and Elijah Wong; and eighth graders Damon Au, Ben Chang, Austin Fujikawa, Joseph Fung, Toby Kim, Gabriel McTee, and Evan Yoshihige. The team was coached by Jerry Opedal, Scot Takemoto, Reese Zukeran, and Jordan Yasutomi.
Congratulations to all of our Eagles!
