Elementary Clubs
There's something for every student to try at the elementary school! For the 2022-23 school year we will have the following clubs/activities available:

Art Club
Purpose: The HBA elementary Art Club develops artists who have a personal desire to grow in creativity and tell their own stories by expressing themselves through visual art.
Description: Students grow as artists by contributing ideas for art projects, practicing different art techniques, and creating artworks. Members may also participate and assist in various art projects to beautify our elementary campus.
Grades: 4-6

Duration of activity:
- October through May 2nd Qtr. Wednesdays – Grade 5/6 Boys
- 3rd Qtr. Wednesdays – Grade 5/6 Girls
- 4th Qtr. Wednesdays – Grade 4
Deadline for permission form: August 12th to Front Office
Skill level needed: None
Tryouts: Selection is based on application if student limit is exceeded
Practice/event days: Wednesdays 2:30 to 3:15 in Art Room (different grade level per quarter).
Parental involvement: None
Cost: None
Campus Ministry Team
Purpose: CMTs serve as serving leaders to provide hands on prayer and preparation for weekly chapels, Christian Emphasis Week, Operation Christmas Child, events with students and neighbors in Nuuanu and around the world.
Description: Students prepare leadership for weekly chapels, Christian Emphasis Week, Operation Christmas Child events with students and neighbors and around the world.
Grades: 4-6
Faculty advisor: Cindy Gaskins
Duration of activity: The entire school year
Deadline for permission form: August 12, 2022
Skill level needed: Applicants should be willing to be on a team, strengthen public speaking skills, learn motions to songs for chapel.
Tryouts: Selections based on student applications. Returning CMTs must have a reference from a teacher. Students involved in sports will be able to participate in both activities.
Practice/event days: Mondays 2:20-3:00 in the Chapel
Parental Involvement: Minimal
Cost: None
Creative Music & Drama
Purpose: The HBA Creative Music and Drama Club is all about having fun and giving glory to God through developing student's gifts of drama, singing, signing and/or playing instruments.
Description: Perform in a play and other possible special events.
Grades: 4-6
Faculty advisor: Sam Browning
Duration of activity: September 1, 2022 - May 18, 2023
Deadline for sign up: August 12, 2022
Skill level needed: None
Tryouts: Only if the 50 student limit is exceeded
Practice/event days: Practices are held on Thursday from 2:30 to 3:15 in chapel.
Parental involvement: Parents are needed to chaperone.
Cost: None
Green Team
Purpose: The HBA Green Team is an organized group of students who work together to help the environment and slow climate change.
Description: Students will collaborate to find and implement solutions to reduce waste, increase recycling, and care for our environment through advocacy and action.
Grades: 4-6 (1st-2nd Q) 3-6 (3rd-4th Q)
Faculty advisor: Julie Venegas
Duration of activity: August through May
Deadline for permission form: August 12th
Skill level needed: Applicants should be interested in and willing to learn about innovative ways to empower HBA to live more sustainably and put our ideas into action.
Tryouts: Selections is based on student application (20 students max per quarter)
Practice/event days: Wednesday 2:30-3:15
Parental Involvement: Very minimal
Cost: None *Donation of a used T-shirt for students to turn into our Team Shirts
Jam For Jesus
Purpose: The HBA elementary Jam for Jesus group sings for Jesus in praise and worship.
Description: Students practice and prepare to lead praise and worship at various events.
Grades: 1-4
Faculty advisor: Rhona Halmos
Duration of activity: September through May
Deadline for permission form: August 12th
Skill level needed: No requirement for hula, dance, sign, or vocals. Students who want to play instruments must have a minimum of two years of lessons.
Tryouts: None
Practice/event days: Fridays from 2:30 to 3:15 in KG
Parental involvement: Supervision at events as needed
Cost: Approximately $10 for a t-shirt
Sports Program
Purpose: The HBA elementary sports program provides students with an opportunity to learn and participate in basketball and volleyball. Students practice the fundamentals of each sport and compete against the other HBA teams.
Grades: 5-6
Faculty advisor: Joseph Aguiar
Duration of activity (5 weeks):
- Boys Basketball: August 29 - October 7, 2022
- Girls Volleyball: October 24 - December 2, 2022
- Boys Volleyball: January 30 - March 3, 2023
- Girls Basketball: March 28 - April 28, 2023
Deadline for sign up: August 12th
Skill level needed: None
Tryouts: Yes - Tryouts will be held on the first date for each sport listed above.
Practice: Mondays & Wednesday 3-4 p.m.
Games: Friday 3-4 p.m.

Cost: None
Student Council
Purpose: The HBA elementary Student Council develop leadership and responsibility while also serving as greeters for HBA visitors.
Description: Students build leadership abilities through even planning, community service, and building school spirit.
Grades: JK-6 (1 ambassador per homeroom. Plus 5 elected officers.)

Deadline for permission form: Officer and Ambassador Elections in September.
Skill level needed: None
Tryouts: All officers and grades 2-6 ambassadors are elected and grades JK-1 are selected by the teachers so there is no sign up for this club. More information about the responsibilities and elections can be found at https://www.hba.net/

- Officers - 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. Every early release
